Short & Snappy Series
Short & Snappy are a series of forums that have been specifically designed to be either taken individually or as a block. We start this year in Sydney with 8, 2 hour interactive, weekly lectures on philosophy with Dr Steven Segal. In April, we are offering a series of 5 half-day workshops on working with clients creatively and conclude the year with exploring what are known as the Four Worlds as first described by Ludwig Binswanger and extended by Emmy van Deurzen. This latter workshop is also offered in Melbourne starting in March.

Philosophical Conversations
Series of 8 interactive lectures
Wednesdays from 6.30 to 8.30pm
PD Points: 2 per lecture
We are living in unsettling times thrown into questioning our most fundamental of assumptions. We have forgotten to philosophize and yet we yearn for answers.
Dr Steven Segal asks “is the experience of being unsettled, perplexed and even uncertain the emotional and existential basis for questioning philosophically, a form of questioning that reaches right back to Socrates?”
The Centre for Existential Practice and Dr Steven Segal invites you to explore the history of philosophy through the lens of the uncertainties and ambiguities of everyday lived experience.
Steven will expand on each of the philosophers and through dialogue explore how each philosopher asks questions that are pertinent to our living in the world today.

Existential practice is usually described as a conversational model with our heart in our heads. However, in this series of short workshops, the creative edge of existentialism is used to expand into the realms of imagination, allowing the unreflective or non-cognitive awareness to come forward.
Each session will be spent exploring how our five senses are activated when working with the different mediums of creativity.

Exploring the Four Worlds
Series of 5 half-day workshops
Saturdays from 2 to 5 pm
PD Points: 3 per session
The Four Worlds (Physical, Social, Private & Spiritual) are the dimensions that we implicitly inhabit in our being-in-the-world. Exploring these dimensions offers the therapist a map for understanding how a client relates to these four worlds. Although separate, these worlds are intimately interdependent and interlinked giving a unique insight into the polarities, tensions and dilemmas that client's face.
Each of the worlds will be covered separately in the first 4 sessions. In the final week all four dimensions will be reviewed to illuminate how this background 'map' can reveal both disparities and highlight potential openings into new understandings for the client.
